Handy hints when sizing your new table...

When more is less?!
Oversized tables can create more space...


A good example of clever sizing is oversizing, surprizingly, oversizing can actually save you space.

Take for example, the diagram to the left. An 1800mm long table to seat 6 people will require 2 end chairs. You will need to allow at least 250mm for end chairs but up to 1m to allow the chair to be pulled out and sat in.

Oversizing your table to a 2100mm allows you to seat 3 chairs down either size so not only does it save space, it also allows to seat extra guest's when required.




Watch the clearance?!


We always advise our customers to be cautious of the clearance around the table. If you have loads of room and are looking for the perfect fit, we always reccomend a minimum of 1m clearance around the table. This allows people to pull their chair out and sit in comfortably. The last thing you want is for guests to be crashing your new chairs into you walls or buffet just to sit down.


If space is tight, you can skimp on this size but make sure you measure well and leave enough room for someone to walk around the table while someone is sitting in the chairs.





GO WIDE?!
1200mm wide tables can squeeze extras...


A hugesly popular size for us at Purdy's is the 1200mm wide. Not only does it give you plenty of room in the centre of the table for salad bowls etc, it also allows you to squeeze a couple of extra people.

The 2400 x 1200 table is one of our most popular sizes. It's a comfortable 10 seat table with the ability to seat 2 on the ends to 12 people.




Another great tip when trying to work out sizes with any furniture is to lay newspaper down to the size of your intended new furniture. Leave it there for a few days and see if you can live with it long term. Remember, if the newspaper ends up torn up and with foot prints all over it, your size is obviously too big.

Although our Extension Tables are 'Made to Order', we do also have standard sizes to help with the selection proccess.

DRAW-LEAF EXTENSION:
The Draw-Leaf extension system is available on almost all designs including Refectory designs. With 2 x 500mm wide leaves which easily pull out from both ends of the table top, you have the choice of using just one leaf to seat 2 extra people or pulling both out to add 4 places.
